For the Keiki

The demigod Maui mingled with the likes of Nemo, Simba and Ariel while some of the island’s most talented musicians took the stage during the Ko Olina Children’s Film & Music Festival, a benefit for Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children.

Kids ruled during this festival that offered something for everyone from toddler to tutu. During the daylight hours, audiences were thrilled by Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s “Sort-It-Out” musical, Performing Arts Center of Kapolei’s medley of Disney tunes and the aerial acrobatics of Samadhi Hawaii. The soundtrack for the day’s festivities came courtesy of Sistah Robi Kahakalau’s sweet sing-alongs, dynamic violinist Awol A. Owen and rising “Keiki Wahine” ‘ukulele stars Honoka Katayama and Azita Ganjali.

However, once night fell, the fête continued beachside with Hawai‘i-inspired films such as Disney’s “Oceans,” “The Haumana,” “Soul Surfer” and animated features “Finding Nemo,” “The Little Mermaid” and “The Lion King.”
